FAQ - Digital Printing

Here you will find all relevant information about our printable items (packaging).

PRINT DATA / PRINTING COLORS

For applying your artwork to our printable items, we require your print data as a vectorized PDF with embedded fonts converted to curves, as well as the specification of the printing colors used in CMYK.

What do we require?

For the creation of a print proof (layout/press proof) and the subsequent production, we require a "vectorized PDF" from you. This can be created, for example, using software such as CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator. It is essential to ensure that fonts are converted to curves and that the colors used are set up in the CMYK color space.

Which color profile should be used?

Please use the color profile "ISO Coated v2 (ECI)" for the creation and PDF export.

What is a vector file?

A vector file is a graphic image that can be scaled up or down infinitely without any loss of quality. The most commonly used vector file formats are EPS, AI, CDR, and SVG.

A vector graphic does not store image information in pixels (raster graphics), but in image descriptions consisting of individual elements such as lines, circles, or other shapes.

How do I get a vectorized PDF?

After you have created your graphic using common software like CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator and converted all elements to curves, export it in the "PDF" file format. Make sure to ensure compatibility with PDF/X-3 and the use of the correct color profile.

If you do not have the possibility to create a vectorized PDF yourself, your local media agency or graphic design office will certainly be able to help you.

I don't know any media agencies / graphic design offices, but I have a file?

Please contact us by email at druck@karton.eu with your print file and, if applicable, the colors and fonts used. After reviewing your data, our graphics department will provide you with a quote for creating the vector graphic. Upon completion of the order, you will receive your graphic for free use as a vectorized PDF or in your preferred file format.

Is a PDF imported with images a pure vector file?

NO! Images consist of strings of pixels in a so-called raster graphic, which were created with a camera, for example, and can have different colors. If you enlarge a raster graphic, the individual pixels are merely enlarged. This results only in a blurry image that is unsuitable for printing.

I have a vector file, but it is not sharp or is "pixelated"?

It is possible that an image file was simply saved as a vector file. In this case, only the file extension changes from, for example, .png, .jpeg, or .tif to .eps, .ai, or .cdr.

Are other file formats permitted?

Other file formats such as .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, etc., are only permitted under certain conditions. The decisive factor here is a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Following a free check, we will contact you by email if your submitted print data is insufficient for printing.

Where can I upload my print data?

You have the option to upload your print data in the shopping cart or send it by email to druck@karton.eu, stating your order number.

Do I need to upload my print data again for a reorder?

NO! Your print data will be stored in a database for at least 24 months along with your last order.
